ABBA the Museum

This museum in Stockholm is dedicated to the creation, rise, and legacy of Sweden’s most popular band: ABBA. Since the Swedish quartet burst onto the music scene in the 1970s, they’ve sold some 385 million records, provided the songs for a Broadway musical (and a movie version of that musical), and gotten people on the dance floor at countless weddings.

The museum features the stories and objects from the members’ lives before the band, you can see the guitar that Björn Ulvaeus used while he was learning to play or take a photo with the band on the bench. You can listen to their Eurovision-winning performance of “Waterloo” and see the original costumes they wore, along with original costumes from some of their most famous performances. There are objects from their various tours and even the mixing desk that was used in their studio. The museum also houses objects from the Broadway production of Mamma Mia and a temporary exhibit on ABBA Voyage.

One unique feature is that there is a telephone in the museum for which only the members of Abba have the number. So if it rings you should pick it up as you might get an opportunity to speak to one of the band.

In addition to the objects and costumes, ABBA the Museum has testimonies from band members, interactive exhibits, and a full history of the band. It is a museum made for both dedicated and casual fans of ABBA.
