Originally cut off by the Greers Ferry Dam Project, Collins Creek Trout Stream now supports one of the newest wild trout fisheries in Arkansas. Indeed, the creek plays host to the first and only documented wild brook trout population in the state, thanks to a diversion pipe from the dam that originally blocked off the stream.

After the restoration project, Brook and Rainbow Trout have reproduced naturally in the creek, and it is not stocked at any time. A buried pipe pours approximately 40,000 gallons of 50-degree water to the creek every hour, which restored the Collins Creek Cascade, and provided the perfect spawning ground for trout.

Trout are not the only cool thing about this spot. The tree canopy and the cascades keep temperatures cool and refreshing on hot summer days in Arkansas. The location draws various hiking tourists and locals from all over, for that reason alone.

Know Before You Go

From AR-25, take Hatchery Road down a short distance, and the Collins Creek trail head sign will guide you into the parking spot. The Cascades are about 100 yards from the parking area, and the trail follows along for about a mile down to the campground and where the creek meets the Little Red River.
