Neal Blaisdell Center, originally known as the Honolulu International Center, is the site of one of the most important concerts in musical history. On January 14, 1973, Elvis Presley performed a concert at the venue entitled, Elvis—Aloha From Hawaii. The performance was the first concert to be broadcast worldwide via satellite. It’s estimated that more than one billion people viewed the broadcast. The statue is on a long-term loan to the City and County of Honolulu from the cable television network, TV Land, to commemorate the landmark event and honor the musical icon. The statue was unveiled in 2007. The bronze Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii sculpture is by artist Ivan Schwartz.
